Horoscopes are forecasts for the twelve signs of the zodiac found online, in newspapers and magazines. They are based on the movement of the Sun, Moon and Planets in relationship to the fixed positions of the signs, using the astrological principle of aspets, or meaningful angles. Horoscopes can be written for any period of time, but daily, weekly and monthly are the most common. They can also describe general trends or focus on a particular subject such as romance career or health.
While it is obvious that every person born under the same sign will not have the same experiences every day, a well written horoscope describes potentials in a manner that is both meaningful and inspiring to the reader. Most important, perhaps, is that they remind us of our connection to the ever-chaning cosmos. Modern horoscopes are based on the Sun's position (sign) on the date of one's birth. However, the traditional meaning of the word actually applies to a chart based on the hour (from the Greek "horo") of birth including the positions of the Sun, Moon and Planets that is also called a natal chart. This is the foundation for more detailed and personal analyses provided by professional astrologers and computer generated reports.
